Several macOS users who upgraded to macOS Catalina are getting various malware popup messages saying, for example:
My problem is that I have some files on my desktop that will not go into the trash. The pop-up message says the item is currently being used by another task, even though I have tried closing all applications, restarting, checking my startup to make sure nothing activates. I think these were downloads that were in progress when Internet Explorer crashed, but they are not in the download manager anymore either.
How can i delete these desktop items??? Thaks in advance for any help/suggestions. I read through a bunch of the archive and most of the advice was how to force trash something already in the trash. If there is a thread out there please point me to it. Thanks again.
You are probably seeing any one of them because you previously installed some fake “utility” apps like “Advanced Mac Cleaner”, “Photo Cleaner”, “Mac Cleanup Pro” and/or “AdwareCleaner.” or something similar. This is malware which is malicious software. If you have any of these programs, uninstall them. This is a known scam targeting Mac users.
Oct 28, 2010 Try the “Undo” Command to Move a File From Trash in Mac OS X. The first to try is a simple Mac keyboard shortcut for Undo, Command + Z, this works to “Undo” the file trashing if it just happened and was the most recent action on the Mac. For example, if you just now put a file in the Trash, hit Command+Z and it will “Undo” it and move the file back out of the Trash. Oct 14, 2014 If something can’t be moved to the trash chances are it’s in use by another application, or it’s in a protected area by permissions. Maybe it’s browser cookies or something like that. No idea what F-Secure is or what it found on your Mac, but you can also check to see if you have malware on the Mac for free with Malwarebytes https://www. Jun 04, 2013 Can't move an app to trash on mac? I have a MacBook Pro, and a while ago I downloaded a few games from the mac app store. I have now decided that they are an unnecessary waste of space on my laptop, and I'm trying to delete them permanently. They are currently in my apps folder, but when I try to drag them into the trash, the just go right back.
It is probably that these files were on your computer and you started seeing any of these popups after you upgraded to macOS Catalina because, during your Catalina upgrade process, all of your files were checked and macOS labeled them as dangerous.

We previously write an article about how you can prevent viruses and other malware on your Mac. Please read this article also.

If you are having this problem too, here is what you can do to resolve:
Let’s first try to find this and then remove it. Open Finder and enter helpermcp or FreeForms-807968 or hlpradc or Mchlpr or spchlp in the search box and hit enter. Then move the results to the Trash in the Dock and them empty the Trash. But this may not resolve your problem because it may sometime become really difficult to remove malware. Users have reported that they are unable to drag them to the Trash.

Also, restart your Mac by going to the Apple menu > Restart. Restarting may remove some malware but I am not sure this will work also.

Furthermore, deleting this may not fully work. You need to completely remove everything otherwise it may reinstall itself again. Download and run the free version of Malwarebytes. This should remove this. You can simply visit this link to download and install this software and then scan your computer.
